Kweza Digital Solutions Ltd is a Malawian software company based in Mangochi. We exist to build serious digital tools for businesses in Africa: practical software that works on the phones people actually have, is honest about prices, and is affordable for companies that are still growing.

Kweza Invoice, the platform you are reading about, is our first product. It is the result of listening to shop owners, traders, consultants and small firms in our community and noticing that most of them had the same story to tell about money.

Most of the businesses we know still do their money on paper: invoices written by hand, prices copied into notebooks, receipts filed in a drawer. It works, right up until it doesn’t. Invoices get lost, a client questions a price, someone re-counts a figure, and chasing payment turns into a full-time job. That is not a small-company problem. It is a growth problem, because every hour spent fighting your paperwork is an hour not spent building your business.

We also saw a trust problem. In many markets, an invoice from a small business is simply not believed. Banks and bigger customers want proof the document is real and was not changed after it was issued. VAT adds another layer: every country has its own rates, rules and zero-rating for exports, and getting it wrong can cost a business real money or an awkward conversation with the tax authority.

The existing desktop accounting software does not solve any of this for most African businesses, because it is expensive, complicated, and built for accountants who sit at computers all day. It ignores how African commerce actually moves: on mobile money, by bank transfer, in cash, and often from a phone on a market stall.

So we asked ourselves one question: what would it take for any African business to create a trustworthy invoice in minutes, straight from a phone, without an accountant? The answer became Kweza Invoice.

Every invoice is produced in a clean, standard layout banks recognise and accept. The correct VAT is added automatically for each country we support, and zero-rated exports are handled for you. Every document carries a QR code, so anyone can scan it and confirm the invoice is genuine and unmodified before money changes hands. And because payment rarely arrives in one lump, we built instalment tracking that takes you all the way down to zero.

It is deliberately simple. The tools we admired most were the ones that got out of the way and let you get back to work, so we kept every screen focused on the job in front of you.
